  • Free HIV and STI testing

The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) says people in Oregon can get tested at a clinic, order a free at-home test, or book a free HIV and syphilis test at a local lab through STDcheck.com. The free mail-order HIV and STI test kits are for people in Oregon who have barriers to getting tested. The free lab test is for anyone in Oregon 18 or older; other STI tests through STDcheck.com, such as chlamydia and gonorrhea, have a cost.

  • Testing for minors

Oregon law (ORS 109.640) lets a minor of any age consent on their own to reproductive health care information and services from a physician, physician associate, nurse practitioner, pharmacist or naturopathic physician. ORS 435.190 defines reproductive health care to include treatments for sexually transmitted infections, and the Oregon Health Authority says this covers STI testing and treatment, including HIV. Under ORS 109.650, a hospital or medical provider may tell a parent or guardian about the minor's diagnosis or treatment without the minor's consent.

  • Expedited partner therapy

CDC lists expedited partner therapy as permissible in Oregon since January 1, 2010. Oregon law (ORS 676.350) lets health professional licensing boards adopt rules that allow clinicians to prescribe or dispense antibiotics for the partners of patients with a sexually transmitted disease without examining the partners. Under ORS 689.505, the pharmacy label for an EPT prescription doesn't have to show the partner's name. CDC also cites a 2007 statement from Oregon's medical board that EPT is often the only reasonable way to treat the partners of patients with chlamydia or gonorrhea.

  • Medicaid at Planned Parenthood

Oregon is not among the seven states that KFF listed in June 2026 as barring Planned Parenthood from Medicaid, and KFF names Oregon among the states that used state-only funds to keep Planned Parenthood and other affected providers running. Planned Parenthood says the federal provision that blocked its Medicaid payments expired on July 4, 2026. Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette, which runs the Portland health centers, says it accepts the Oregon Health Plan (OHP), Oregon's Medicaid program, and charges for its services on a sliding fee scale based on household income.

Free option: public clinics

Free and low-cost testing is available at health department clinics and Title X family planning clinics. CDC's GetTested site finds confidential, free or low-cost testing near you by ZIP code.

What to expect

  • Clinics usually test for chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis and HIV, and often hepatitis B and C, following CDC screening advice for your age, anatomy and the kind of sex you have.
  • A clinician can examine you, swab sores and often treat you in the same visit.
  • Some tests sold in private panels are usually not offered without symptoms, such as herpes blood tests and HPV tests for men, because CDC doesn't recommend them as screening tests.
  • Hours can be limited, and you may wait for an appointment or a walk-in slot.
  • Free testing usually isn't anonymous either (some publicly funded sites offer anonymous HIV testing). Positive results for reportable infections are reported to the health department, confidentially.

Questions about STD testing in Portland

Hours and services change. Call ahead or check the clinic's own page before you go.

Where can I get a free STD test in Portland?

Pivot, the testing clinic at Prism Health, offers free HIV, syphilis, chlamydia and gonorrhea testing by appointment at Prism Health's Belmont and Morris clinics; call (971) 279-7033. CAP's Testing 4 All site on NW Davis Street offers free walk-in HIV tests on Mondays and Wednesdays. Multnomah County's outreach van offers free HIV, hepatitis C and syphilis tests with no appointment and no ID needed; call 503-988-3700 for the latest schedule. The county's STI Clinic charges a visit fee if you don't use insurance, but says no one will be turned away if they cannot pay. Outside In uses sliding scale fees based on income, and Planned Parenthood's NE Portland and Hillman East Portland centers say they will never turn you away if you can't pay.

Do I need an appointment at Multnomah County's STI Clinic?

Yes. Multnomah County says appointments are required and asks for no walk-ins; call 503-988-3700 to schedule. The STI Clinic page lists Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed for lunch from 12:10 to 1:10 p.m., with Friday for testing services only. The county's HIV Testing page lists Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., so call to check. Visits for people with no symptoms are offered on a limited basis. For walk-in care, Planned Parenthood's NE Portland and Hillman East Portland centers take walk-ins any time they're open, Outside In takes walk-ins, and CAP's Testing 4 All site offers walk-in HIV tests.

Can teens get tested without a parent in Portland?

Yes. Oregon law (ORS 109.640) lets a minor of any age consent, without a parent's or guardian's consent, to reproductive health care information and services from a physician, physician associate, nurse practitioner, pharmacist or naturopathic physician. ORS 435.190 defines reproductive health care to include treatments for sexually transmitted infections. Multnomah County says that in Oregon, teens can consent to HIV and STI testing and treatment without a parent's permission. Under ORS 109.650, the hospital or clinician may still tell a parent or legal guardian about the care without the minor's consent. Outside In sees patients 15 to 17 without a guardian; ages 13 and 14 come with a guardian.

Can I use the Oregon Health Plan (OHP) for STD testing in Portland?

Yes, at many sites. In Oregon, Medicaid is called the Oregon Health Plan (OHP). The county's STI Clinic accepts most insurance, including Care Oregon, OHP, Medicare and private plans (except Kaiser). Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette, which runs the NE Portland and Hillman East Portland centers, says it accepts OHP and charges on a sliding fee scale based on household income. Prism Health accepts Oregon Medicaid for primary care visits, and Outside In can help you sign up for OHP. Oregon is not among the seven states that KFF listed in June 2026 as barring Planned Parenthood from Medicaid.

Can I order an STD test online in Portland?

Yes. The price table on this page shows the providers that sell in Oregon, each price with the date we checked it. You order and pay online, then give a sample at a lab near you, or use a home kit. Some providers let you order and give a sample the same day.
