Free and low-cost public testing
The Florida Department of Health says its county health departments provide STI screening, counseling, treatment and education. For HIV, its testing site says health departments charge a minimal fee and nothing to people who can't afford it, and Florida residents can order a free at-home HIV test kit by mail.

Testing for minors
Florida Statutes §384.30 lets the health department, licensed physicians and nurses, and hospitals and clinics examine and treat any minor for a sexually transmissible disease without a parent's or guardian's consent. The visit is confidential and can't be disclosed, directly or indirectly, for example by sending a bill to a parent, except as state law provides.
Expedited partner therapy
CDC lists expedited partner therapy as permissible in Florida since July 1, 2016, under Florida Statutes §384.27. A clinician who diagnoses or suspects a sexually transmissible disease can provide treatment for a partner who is unable or unlikely to get care in time, and a pharmacist can fill that prescription even though the partner wasn't examined.
Medicaid at Planned Parenthood
Florida is not among the seven states that KFF listed in June 2026 as barring Planned Parenthood from Medicaid; KFF counts it among the states whose exclusions courts blocked before the Supreme Court's Medina ruling. Planned Parenthood says the federal provision that blocked its Medicaid payments expired on July 4, 2026, and asks Medicaid patients to check with their health center. Planned Parenthood of Florida lists Florida Medicaid, including Family Planning Only, among the insurance it accepts.

Free option: public clinics
Free and low-cost testing is available at health department clinics and Title X family planning clinics. CDC's GetTested site finds confidential, free or low-cost testing near you by ZIP code.
What to expect
- Clinics usually test for chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis and HIV, and often hepatitis B and C, following CDC screening advice for your age, anatomy and the kind of sex you have.
- A clinician can examine you, swab sores and often treat you in the same visit.
- Some tests sold in private panels are usually not offered without symptoms, such as herpes blood tests and HPV tests for men, because CDC doesn't recommend them as screening tests.
- Hours can be limited, and you may wait for an appointment or a walk-in slot.
- Free testing usually isn't anonymous either (some publicly funded sites offer anonymous HIV testing). Positive results for reportable infections are reported to the health department, confidentially.
Questions about STD testing in Jacksonville
Hours and services change. Call ahead or check the clinic's own page before you go.
Where can I get a free STD test in Jacksonville?
AHF says STD and HIV testing are always free at its Wellness Center on Shircliff Way, with or without insurance, and it takes walk-ins. CAN Community Health's clinic on Philips Highway lists free STD testing and free rapid HIV testing, by appointment, and UF CARES offers free STI testing at its Southside site. The Florida Department of Health in Duval County tests at low or no cost; its eligibility page says fees follow a sliding scale and no one is denied services for inability to pay.
Do I need an appointment at the Duval County health department STD clinic?
Yes. The Florida Department of Health in Duval County asks you to call 904-253-1130 to schedule. It tests at the Center for Women and Children and the Comprehensive Care Center, both at 515 West 6th St., and at the South Jacksonville Family Health Center on University Blvd. South. The clinics are open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; the Comprehensive Care Center's location page also lists Tuesday and Thursday hours until 7 p.m. To walk in instead, try the AHF Wellness Center or a MinuteClinic, or Planned Parenthood's Jacksonville Health Center, which sees walk-ins as capacity allows.
Can teens get tested without a parent in Jacksonville?
Yes. Florida law (§384.30) lets clinics, doctors and nurses examine and treat a minor for a sexually transmissible disease without a parent's consent, and the visit stays confidential: it can't be disclosed, for example by sending a bill to a parent. Planned Parenthood of Florida, which runs the Jacksonville Health Center, says minors can consent to confidential care without parental notification, though it encourages them to include a parent or another responsible adult. It offers discounted STD testing to teens 13 to 18. MinuteClinic tests only patients 18 and older.
How does the Duval County health department charge for STD testing?
On a sliding fee scale. The Florida Department of Health in Duval County describes its STD testing as low or no cost. Its eligibility page says fees are based on household income and size, that you may be asked to document them, and that no one will be denied services due to an inability to pay. Its services are open to all residents and visitors, and citizenship is not required. It accepts Medicaid and private insurance, so bring your card.
Can I order an STD test online in Jacksonville?
Yes. The price table on this page shows the providers that sell in Florida, each price with the date we checked it. You order and pay online, then give a sample at a lab near you, or use a home kit. Some providers let you order and give a sample the same day.
