Nevada rules and programs

Checked Nov 1, 2026

  • Free at-home HIV tests

Nevada's Office of HIV, part of the Division of Public and Behavioral Health, says any Nevada resident can get a free at-home HIV test. You can order one through the Southern Nevada Health District's Collect2Protect program, which is open to everyone who lives in Nevada, or ask one of the partner agencies it lists in Las Vegas. Gonorrhea and chlamydia testing through Collect2Protect has a cost. The Office of HIV also keeps a map of free HIV testing locations.

  • Testing for people under 18

Nevada law (NRS 129.060) lets a minor (in Nevada, a person under 18) consent on their own to an exam or treatment for any sexually transmitted disease from a state or local health officer, licensed physician, physician assistant, registered nurse or clinic. Minors can also consent to services that help prevent sexually transmitted diseases.

Sources: Nevada Legislature (opens in a new tab)

  • Expedited partner therapy

CDC lists expedited partner therapy as permissible in Nevada since March 16, 2009. CDC bases this on state rules that require clinicians to follow its treatment guidelines for chlamydia and gonorrhea (Nev. Admin. Code §§ 441A.490, 441A.540). A clinician who treats you for one of these infections can give you medicine for your partners without examining them.

  • Medicaid at Planned Parenthood

Nevada is not among the seven states that KFF listed in June 2026 as barring Planned Parenthood from Medicaid. Planned Parenthood says the federal provision that blocked its Medicaid payments expired on July 4, 2026, and asks Medicaid patients to check with their health center. Planned Parenthood Mar Monte's page on Nevada programs says Medicaid will pay for most of its services, including STD testing, and that its staff check what your plan covers.

Free option: public clinics

Free and low-cost testing is available at health department clinics and Title X family planning clinics. CDC's GetTested site finds confidential, free or low-cost testing near you by ZIP code.

What to expect

  • Clinics usually test for chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis and HIV, and often hepatitis B and C, following CDC screening advice for your age, anatomy and the kind of sex you have.
  • A clinician can examine you, swab sores and often treat you in the same visit.
  • Some tests sold in private panels are usually not offered without symptoms, such as herpes blood tests and HPV tests for men, because CDC doesn't recommend them as screening tests.
  • Hours can be limited, and you may wait for an appointment or a walk-in slot.
  • Free testing usually isn't anonymous either (some publicly funded sites offer anonymous HIV testing). Positive results for reportable infections are reported to the health department, confidentially.

Questions about STD testing in Las Vegas

Hours and services change. Call ahead or check the clinic's own page before you go.

Where can I get a free STD test in Las Vegas?

For free STD testing in Las Vegas, the Southern Nevada Health District offers Express Testing for people without symptoms at its main public health center on Decatur Boulevard and at its Fremont Street center. The Center's health clinic offers free HIV testing and low-cost STI screening. The health district's Sexual Health Clinic charges on a sliding scale and says you will not be turned away on the day of your visit if you can't pay. CAN Community Health and Nevada Health Centers also offer sliding fee discounts.

Do I need an appointment at the health district's Sexual Health Clinic?

Not for STI testing. The clinic takes walk-ins for STI testing and treatment until it reaches capacity, and asks you to arrive by 5:30 p.m. It encourages appointments for PrEP and PEP, for people who are pregnant or trying to get pregnant, and after a sexual assault; call (702) 759-1700. Bring proof of income and a photo ID so the clinic can set your fee.

Can teens get tested without a parent in Las Vegas?

The Southern Nevada Community Health Center, which runs the health district's Sexual Health Clinic, says its services are confidential and parental permission is not required. Planned Parenthood Mar Monte, which runs the North Las Vegas Health Center, says teens are always welcome and its health centers provide confidential services.

How long do STD test results take in Las Vegas?

The Center says its rapid HIV test gives a result in less than a minute, and gonorrhea, chlamydia and syphilis results typically take 3 to 5 days. MinuteClinic says chlamydia and gonorrhea results often come in 1 to 2 days. The health district's Collect2Protect program lets Nevada residents order home collection kits for gonorrhea and chlamydia, and says results can be ready 7 to 10 business days after its lab receives the sample.

Can I order an STD test online in Las Vegas?

Yes. The price table on this page shows the providers that sell in Nevada, each price with the date we checked it. You order and pay online, then give a sample at a lab near you, or use a home kit. Some providers let you order and give a sample the same day.
