Free public HIV and syphilis testing
The Maryland Department of Health (MDH) says you can call 1-800-456-2323 for a free syphilis and HIV testing appointment. MDH's sexual health page also lists each local health department's contact for STI testing and treatment, HIV testing and care, and PrEP.

Testing for people under 18
Maryland law (Md. Code, Health-General §20-102) gives a minor (in Maryland, a person under 18) the same capacity as an adult to consent to treatment for or advice about venereal disease, the law's term for sexually transmitted diseases, and to treatment for the prevention of HIV. A licensed health care practitioner may, but need not, give a parent or guardian information about that treatment, even without the minor's consent or over the minor's objection.

Expedited partner therapy
CDC lists expedited partner therapy as permissible in Maryland since July 12, 2021. Under Md. Code, Health-General §18-214.1, certain health care providers can give antibiotic therapy to the partners of patients diagnosed with chlamydia, gonorrhea or trichomoniasis without examining the partner, and a licensed pharmacist may dispense it. State rules (COMAR 10.06.07) set eligibility, counseling, prescribing, dispensing and reporting requirements. CDC notes that the prescription label doesn't need the patient's name, but if the prescription gives a name, the label must show it.
Medicaid at Planned Parenthood
Maryland is not among the seven states that KFF listed in June 2026 as barring Planned Parenthood from Medicaid. Planned Parenthood says the federal provision that blocked its Medicaid payments expired on July 4, 2026, and asks Medicaid patients to check with their health center. Planned Parenthood of Maryland, which runs the Baltimore City, Towson and Owings Mills health centers, lists Medicaid among the insurance they accept. Its health centers can also enroll eligible low-income Maryland residents on the spot in the Temporary Maryland Family Planning Medicaid Program, which covers STI screening and treatment done as part of a family planning visit, and it says minors can apply without their parents' knowledge or permission.

Free option: public clinics
Free and low-cost testing is available at health department clinics and Title X family planning clinics. CDC's GetTested site finds confidential, free or low-cost testing near you by ZIP code.
What to expect
- Clinics usually test for chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis and HIV, and often hepatitis B and C, following CDC screening advice for your age, anatomy and the kind of sex you have.
- A clinician can examine you, swab sores and often treat you in the same visit.
- Some tests sold in private panels are usually not offered without symptoms, such as herpes blood tests and HPV tests for men, because CDC doesn't recommend them as screening tests.
- Hours can be limited, and you may wait for an appointment or a walk-in slot.
- Free testing usually isn't anonymous either (some publicly funded sites offer anonymous HIV testing). Positive results for reportable infections are reported to the health department, confidentially.

Where can I get a free STD test in Baltimore?
The Baltimore City Health Department says lab tests for chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis and HIV done through its own lab are free for all patients at its Druid and Eastern Sexual Health and Wellness Clinics. The visit itself is billed to insurance or on a sliding scale based on income, and the department says it won't turn anyone away for lack of insurance or ability to pay. Its family planning clinics, which also offer STD screening, charge sliding scale fees. Total Health Care offers free HIV testing at its Division, Kirk and Saratoga health centers, and Park West Health System says its HIV testing is free and confidential; both have sliding fee scales. Health Care for the Homeless offers free, confidential HIV testing for people experiencing homelessness. Planned Parenthood of Maryland offers reduced fees based on household income and says it will never turn you away if you can't pay. The Maryland Department of Health says you can call 1-800-456-2323 for a free syphilis and HIV testing appointment, and the city Health Department points to I Want The Kit, a program started at Johns Hopkins that mails free STI and HIV home test kits.
Do I need an appointment at the Baltimore City Health Department's sexual health clinics?
Appointments are recommended, but both clinics see a limited number of walk-ins, first come, first served. The Eastern Sexual Health and Wellness Clinic, 1200 E. Fayette St., is open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; call (410) 396-9410. The Druid Sexual Health and Wellness Clinic, 1501 W. Saratoga St., is open Tuesday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; the Health Department's page prints (443) 984-3953 for it, but its call link dials (410) 396-0176. At both, the last appointment is at 4:30 p.m. Bring a photo ID and your insurance card if you have one. Planned Parenthood's Baltimore-area health centers offer STD testing by appointment only, and the MinuteClinic on S Exeter St takes walk-ins.
Can teens get tested without a parent in Baltimore?
For STD care, yes. Maryland law (Md. Code, Health-General §20-102) gives a minor the same capacity as an adult to consent to treatment for or advice about venereal disease, the law's term for sexually transmitted diseases, and to treatment to prevent HIV. The same law lets a licensed health care practitioner tell a parent or guardian about that treatment, but doesn't require it, even if the minor objects. Planned Parenthood of Maryland says minors can get STI testing and treatment without a parent's consent. The Health Department's family planning clinics have walk-in hours for ages 10 to 24: Thursdays, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., at the Druid Family Planning Clinic on W. North Avenue, and Tuesdays, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., at the Eastern Family Planning Clinic on E. Fayette St. MinuteClinic's STI testing is only for patients 18 and older.
Can I use Medicaid at Planned Parenthood in Baltimore?
Yes. Planned Parenthood of Maryland's Baltimore City Health Center on North Howard Street, and its Towson and Owings Mills health centers, list Medicaid among the insurance they accept. Its health centers can also enroll eligible low-income Maryland residents on the spot in the Temporary Maryland Family Planning Medicaid Program, which covers STI screening and treatment done as part of a family planning visit; Planned Parenthood of Maryland says minors can apply without their parents' knowledge or permission. Maryland is not among the seven states that KFF listed in June 2026 as barring Planned Parenthood from Medicaid. At the Health Department's sexual health clinics, patients with Medicaid or a Maryland Medicaid managed care plan should have no co-pay, and Total Health Care also accepts Medicaid.
Can I order an STD test online in Baltimore?
Yes. The price table on this page shows the providers that sell in Maryland, each price with the date we checked it. You order and pay online, then give a sample at a lab near you, or use a home kit. Some providers let you order and give a sample the same day.
