Low-cost public testing
The Kentucky Department for Public Health says local health departments test for chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis, and treat people diagnosed with, exposed to or suspected of having them. It says these services are confidential and that a fee may be charged, but no one will be denied testing or treatment for being unable to pay. Its HIV/AIDS Branch says every county health department offers rapid HIV screening with results in 15 to 20 minutes, and that county health departments and community organizations offer free HIV tests.

Testing for people under 18
Kentucky law (KRS 214.185) lets a physician, with a minor's consent, examine the minor for venereal disease, the law's term for a sexually transmitted disease, and advise, prescribe for and treat the minor without the consent of, or notice to, a parent or guardian. The law sets no minimum age. The physician may tell a parent or guardian about treatment when, in the physician's judgment, that would benefit the minor's health. Parents aren't financially responsible for this care unless it is essential to preserve the minor's health. In Kentucky, adulthood begins at 18 (KRS 2.015).

Expedited partner therapy
CDC lists expedited partner therapy as permissible in Kentucky since June 29, 2023, under KRS 214.430. A physician, advanced practice registered nurse or physician assistant who diagnoses you with a sexually transmitted infection, such as chlamydia, gonorrhea or trichomoniasis, can give you antibiotics for your sexual partners without examining them. The law says the clinician must follow CDC's treatment guidelines for EPT and give you the Department for Public Health's forms that explain it.

Medicaid at Planned Parenthood
Kentucky is not among the seven states that KFF listed in June 2026 as barring Planned Parenthood from Medicaid, nor among the states KFF lists whose exclusions courts blocked before the Supreme Court's Medina ruling. Planned Parenthood says the federal provision that blocked its Medicaid payments expired on July 4, 2026, and asks Medicaid patients to check with their health center. Planned Parenthood Great Northwest, Hawaiʻi, Alaska, Indiana, Kentucky, which runs the Louisville Health Center, says it accepts Medicaid in Kentucky and lists Kentucky Medicaid among the plans it takes there; the Louisville center's page also lists Medicaid.
