Colorado rules and programs

Checked Nov 1, 2026

  • Free and low-cost public testing

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) says many clinics offer confidential, free or low-cost STI testing, and you can order a free at-home STI and HIV test through its website. Its locator lists testing and treatment sites across the state.

Sources: Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (opens in a new tab)

  • Testing for minors

Under Colorado law (C.R.S. 25-4-409), a minor doesn't need a parent's or guardian's consent for a consultation, exam, preventive care or treatment for sexually transmitted infections, and that care is confidential, apart from required child-abuse reporting. If the minor is 13 or younger, the provider may involve a parent or guardian.

Sources: Colorado General Assembly (opens in a new tab)

  • Expedited partner therapy

CDC lists expedited partner therapy as permissible in Colorado since July 19, 2007, based on Colorado Medical Board Policy 40-10. CDC says the board expressly supports EPT and that a prescription doesn't require examining each patient first.

  • Medicaid at Planned Parenthood

Colorado is not among the seven states that KFF listed in June 2026 as barring Planned Parenthood from Medicaid, and KFF names Colorado among the states that used state-only funds to keep Planned Parenthood and other affected providers running. Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains lists Colorado Medicaid among the plans it accepts.

Free option: public clinics

Free and low-cost testing is available at health department clinics and Title X family planning clinics. CDC's GetTested site finds confidential, free or low-cost testing near you by ZIP code.

What to expect

  • Clinics usually test for chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis and HIV, and often hepatitis B and C, following CDC screening advice for your age, anatomy and the kind of sex you have.
  • A clinician can examine you, swab sores and often treat you in the same visit.
  • Some tests sold in private panels are usually not offered without symptoms, such as herpes blood tests and HPV tests for men, because CDC doesn't recommend them as screening tests.
  • Hours can be limited, and you may wait for an appointment or a walk-in slot.
  • Free testing usually isn't anonymous either (some publicly funded sites offer anonymous HIV testing). Positive results for reportable infections are reported to the health department, confidentially.

Questions about STD testing in Colorado Springs

Hours and services change. Call ahead or check the clinic's own page before you go.

Where can I get a free STD test in Colorado Springs?

Hey719, a Colorado Health Network program, offers free STI and HIV testing by appointment at 1353 S. 8th St. on Mondays and Tuesdays and at Prism Community Collective, 711 S. Tejon St., on Wednesdays and Thursdays, with walk-in days at Prism on some Thursdays. Its testing is queer-centered and meant for people who are uninsured or underinsured, though anyone may test. El Paso County Public Health's Reproductive Health Clinic charges on a sliding scale and says no client will be denied services because of an inability to pay. Peak Vista Community Health Centers has a sliding fee discount and says everyone is welcome regardless of ability to pay. UCCS students can get free walk-in STI testing at the campus Wellness Center on the third Thursday of each month. Colorado's health department also offers free at-home STI and HIV tests.

Do I need an appointment at El Paso County Public Health's clinic?

Not always. El Paso County Public Health says its Reproductive Health Clinic, on the second floor of the Citizens Service Center at 1675 W. Garden of the Gods Rd., has same-day or next-day appointments, and it sees walk-ins when the schedule allows, but not after 3 p.m. Call (719) 578-3199, option 1. It's open Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. AFC Urgent Care North Colorado Springs and both Any Lab Test Now stores take walk-ins for STD testing, and Planned Parenthood's Westside Health Center lets you walk in to see if there's a same-day opening.

Can teens get tested without a parent in Colorado Springs?

Yes. Colorado law (C.R.S. 25-4-409) says a minor doesn't need a parent's or guardian's consent for an STI exam, preventive care or treatment. BC4U, a free sexual and reproductive health clinic for people in Colorado 24 and younger, says in its FAQ that you never have to bring a parent to get birth control and that it doesn't need a parent's permission to see you. Its Colorado Springs clinic on Briargate Parkway is temporarily closed, but BC4U says its free video visits need no appointment and can mail STI test kits to an address you choose.

How long do STD test results take in Colorado Springs?

At Hey719, HIV, syphilis and hepatitis C results come during the visit, and chlamydia and gonorrhea results come by phone in 7 to 10 business days. Planned Parenthood's Westside Health Center says rapid HIV results take 10 to 40 minutes and HIV blood test results take 4 days, and HIV results are given in person. Any Lab Test Now says results for its full STD panel usually take 3 to 5 business days after the lab gets your sample, and its Colorado Springs stores advertise same-day results for HIV and syphilis.

Can I order an STD test online in Colorado Springs?

Yes. The price table on this page shows the providers that sell in Colorado, each price with the date we checked it. You order and pay online, then give a sample at a lab near you, or use a home kit. Some providers let you order and give a sample the same day.
