  • Low-cost public testing

The Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) lists STI testing clinics county by county, with their hours and fees. Many charge on a sliding fee scale. For the Pima County clinics in Tucson, the list says fees are based on income and household size and no one is turned away for inability to pay. For Maricopa County, it points to the county's community testing events for free and low-cost testing. ADHS also lists county health departments and community organizations that offer HIV testing, and says you can order an HIV home test kit by mail through HIVAZ.

  • Testing for people under 18

Arizona law (A.R.S. §44-132.01) lets a minor (in Arizona, a person under 18) who may have contracted a venereal disease, the law's term for a sexually transmitted disease, consent on their own to hospital or medical care to diagnose or treat it. A parent's or legal guardian's consent is not needed.

  • Expedited partner therapy

CDC lists expedited partner therapy as permissible in Arizona since July 6, 2013. CDC bases this on Arizona's law for physicians (Ariz. Rev. Stat. §32-1401) and a Board of Nursing rule for nurse practitioners (Ariz. Admin. Code R4-19-511), which allow prescribing antimicrobials for a person exposed to a patient the clinician has diagnosed with a communicable disease, without examining that person first. A clinician who diagnoses you with an STD can prescribe medicine for your partners without examining them.

  • Medicaid at Planned Parenthood

Arizona is not among the seven states that KFF listed in June 2026 as barring Planned Parenthood from Medicaid. KFF lists Arizona among at least seven other states that enacted exclusions that courts blocked before the Supreme Court's Medina ruling. Planned Parenthood says the federal provision that blocked its Medicaid payments expired on July 4, 2026, and asks Medicaid patients to check with their health center. Planned Parenthood Arizona's list of the insurance plans it accepts doesn't include AHCCCS, Arizona's Medicaid program, and it asks patients to call 855-207-7526 to check their coverage.

Free option: public clinics

Free and low-cost testing is available at health department clinics and Title X family planning clinics. CDC's GetTested site finds confidential, free or low-cost testing near you by ZIP code.

What to expect

  • Clinics usually test for chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis and HIV, and often hepatitis B and C, following CDC screening advice for your age, anatomy and the kind of sex you have.
  • A clinician can examine you, swab sores and often treat you in the same visit.
  • Some tests sold in private panels are usually not offered without symptoms, such as herpes blood tests and HPV tests for men, because CDC doesn't recommend them as screening tests.
  • Hours can be limited, and you may wait for an appointment or a walk-in slot.
  • Free testing usually isn't anonymous either (some publicly funded sites offer anonymous HIV testing). Positive results for reportable infections are reported to the health department, confidentially.

Questions about STD testing in Phoenix

Hours and services change. Call ahead or check the clinic's own page before you go.

Where can I get a free STD test in Phoenix?

Prisma Community Care (formerly Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS) offers free HIV and STI testing by appointment at 1101 N. Central Ave. Chicanos Por La Causa offers free walk-in HIV, chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis testing on weekdays at its Maryvale Community Service Center. Aunt Rita's Foundation, through GetTestedAZ.org, offers free in-person HIV testing at Sonora Quest Laboratories, where you may also qualify for free STI testing, and free at-home HIV test kits. Valleywise Health also mails free at-home HIV tests. The Maricopa County STI clinics charge one fee per visit and now accept insurance.

Do I need an appointment at the Maricopa County STI clinic?

No. All four Maricopa County STI clinics take walk-ins and appointments; to book, call 602-506-7218 or book online. For walk-ins, the county asks you to arrive before 11 a.m. to be seen before the noon to 1 p.m. closure, or before 3 p.m. for same-day care, and says the clinics are usually busiest on Mondays and Fridays. The Phoenix clinic at 1645 E. Roosevelt St. is the only one with rapid HIV testing, from 8 to 10 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m., with results in about an hour. You don't need to live in Maricopa County or Arizona.

Can teens get tested without a parent in Phoenix?

Yes. Arizona law (A.R.S. §44-132.01) lets a minor who may have a sexually transmitted disease consent to medical care to diagnose or treat it, and a parent's or guardian's consent is not needed. Valleywise Health's adolescent care at Valleywise Comprehensive Health Center: Phoenix (2525 E. Roosevelt St.) includes STI testing and treatment; call 1-833-855-9973. At the county STI clinics, only patients 18 and older can sign up for the patient portal. Everyone gets a visit summary with the number of the county's results line, which gives results on weekdays from 9 to 11 a.m.

Can I use AHCCCS for STD testing in Phoenix?

At several sites. Prisma Community Care, NOAH and Adelante Healthcare accept AHCCCS, and Valleywise Health asks you to bring your AHCCCS card. Testing with a Prevention Specialist at Prisma is free whether or not you have coverage. The Maricopa County STI clinics started accepting insurance on April 6, 2026, and say you'll be seen regardless of insurance status. Planned Parenthood Arizona's list of accepted plans doesn't include AHCCCS, so call 855-207-7526 to check before you go. Without coverage, Prisma, NOAH, Adelante and Valleywise offer sliding fee scales.

Can I order an STD test online in Phoenix?

Yes. The price table on this page shows the providers that sell in Arizona, each price with the date we checked it. You order and pay online, then give a sample at a lab near you, or use a home kit. Some providers let you order and give a sample the same day.
