About this site

About STD Test Prices

STD Test Prices compares private STD testing in the United States. If you've already decided to test and to pay for it, we help you pick the test, the provider and the route quickly, then send you to the provider to order.

What we compare

We list current prices, turnaround times and features for STD tests sold directly to consumers, across three ways of buying:

  • Online order and lab visit. You order online and give a sample at a lab such as Quest or Labcorp.
  • Home collection kit. A kit arrives by mail, you collect the sample and mail it to a lab.
  • Private clinic, where a clinic publishes a price.

We also point to free and low-cost public clinics through CDC's GetTested locator. For some people they're the better choice, and we say so.

Every price shows the date we last verified it. Our methodology explains how we collect and check prices and how the default ranking works.

What we don't do

  • We don't sell tests, take samples or deliver results. The provider you choose does that.
  • We don't give medical advice. Our guides explain CDC and other public health guidance in plain language, and they don't replace a clinician.
  • We don't collect health information. Our tools run in your browser and store nothing. See our privacy policy.

This site is not medical advice. If you have symptoms, see a clinician. If you think you were exposed to HIV in the last 72 hours, go to an urgent care, emergency room or your doctor now and ask about PEP.

How we make money

Some providers pay us a commission when someone buys a test after clicking one of our links. Others don't, and we list them anyway, because a comparison with gaps isn't much use. Commissions don't affect which providers we include or how we rank them. Our affiliate disclosure has the details.

How we write

Guides and test pages are written by the STD Test Prices editorial team. Every medical, legal or price fact links to a primary source, such as CDC's STI Treatment Guidelines, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, HHS, the IRS or the provider's own page. Our editorial policy covers our sourcing and tone rules.

We are appointing a licensed clinician to review medical content. Until then, medical pages say "Medical review pending." Our medical review page explains the process.
